Description
The AS15, AS16, and AS17collection was designed by renowned Italian architect and designer Sergio Asti. It is one of the iconic expressions of 1980s Italian design. Today, the historic Murano glassmaker NasonMoretti has brought the collection back as a faithful reissue of the original 1985–1986 archive designs.
Clean, geometric, and essential forms give these vases the presence of contemporary sculptures. Their minimalist silhouettes create a refined dialogue with architecture, surrounding space, and light.
Each vase is entirely handcrafted in Murano using the traditional opaline blown-glass technique (vetro soffiato opalino). This specialized glassmaking process creates remarkable depth of color. It also gives the surface a smooth, velvety, and uniform appearance reminiscent of porcelain.
The models of the collection
Vase AS15
Dimensions
- Height: 33.5 cm
- Diameter: 17.5 cm
Approximate weight
2.6–2.9 kg
The tallest and most slender model in the collection.
Its elegant vertical silhouette beautifully complements decorative branches and delicate floral arrangements. It is equally striking without flowers. Displayed on its own, AS15 becomes a refined sculptural accent.
Vase AS16
Dimensions
- Height: 30 cm
- Diameter: 22 cm
Approximate weight
3.2–3.6 kg
Its generous, balanced form creates a perfect balance between visual presence and minimalist simplicity.
AS16 can be displayed as a low floor vase or used as a substantial centerpiece. It also makes a striking focal point on a console table, dresser, or sideboard.
Vase AS17
Dimensions
- Height: 24 cm
- Diameter: 18.5 cm
Approximate weight
2.0–2.3 kg
Compact and sculptural, AS17 is designed to be appreciated from every angle.
Its full, softly rounded form highlights the depth and intensity of the opaline glass. Even without flowers, the vase makes a strong visual statement. Displayed on its own, it becomes a contemporary glass sculpture.
Glassmaking Technique
Each vase is produced using the traditional hand-blown glass technique.
The distinctive opaline effect is achieved by layering multiple layers of glass. An inner layer of milky white glass is enclosed within a second layer of transparent colored glass.
The result is an exceptionally uniform and luminous surface with a soft, velvety appearance. The layered glass gently diffuses light and avoids harsh reflections.
Each piece is individually mouth-blown by skilled Murano glassmakers and carefully shaped by hand. This artisanal process gives every vase its own distinctive character, making each piece a unique expression of authentic Murano craftsmanship.
Available Colors
- Opaline Anise
- Opaline Iris
- Opaline Avio Blue
- Opaline Panama Yellow
- Opaline Pink
Each color is created directly within the molten glass rather than applied to the surface. This gives the color its distinctive depth and luminosity while helping it retain its visual intensity over time.
Design and collectible value
The collection bears the signature of Sergio Asti, one of the leading figures of 20th-century Italian design.
The AS15, AS16, and AS17 forms are recognized as classics of Italian modernist design. The current collection is the official reissue of the iconic series originally created in 1985–1986.
Produced by the historic Murano glassmaker NasonMoretti, these pieces embody the finest traditions of Murano art glass. Sergio Asti’s distinctive design language, Murano craftsmanship, and the collection’s recognizable sculptural forms make these vases especially appealing to collectors and enthusiasts of international design.
Light and atmosphere
Opaline glass diffuses light with exceptional softness.
Unlike transparent glass, it does not create sharp glare or intense reflections. Instead, the glass produces a soft luminosity that enhances the color and gives the surface a porcelain-like appearance.
In daylight, the colors appear deep and silky. Under artificial lighting, the glass takes on a softer glow. As the light changes, subtle variations in color and depth emerge. This gives each vase an understated yet sophisticated presence.
In Interior Design
The Asti Collection works beautifully in interiors inspired by:
- Minimalism
- Contemporary design
- Japandi;
- Scandinavian design;
- Mid-Century Modern.
The three models were conceived as an architectural composition. Displayed together, their different heights and volumes create an elegant visual rhythm.
Each vase is equally compelling on its own. Individually, it becomes a strong decorative accent or a stand-alone sculptural object.
The collection pairs beautifully with marble, travertine, concrete, natural oak, walnut, satin-finished brass, and contemporary Yalos Murano.
Price
The collection brings together three models with proportions designed to complement one another.
